Going through the process of his mum being admitted to a care home in Edinburgh sparked Richard’s interest in care. He has now been in the sector for more than five years, initially working across a number of Care UK homes. Richard is now based at the privately owned Cramond Residence in Edinburgh where he heads up the sales and marketing.
One of the biggest aspects of his job is meeting prospective residents and their families. It's an emotional journey; looking for care for a loved one (one Richard knows too well) but he enjoys helping to lift the burden of the decision when families feel assured that their loved ones will be cared for like one of the family.
Richard prides himself on looking after people, to listen to what they want and translate that to what they need. His skills are varied, having enjoyed working with some of the biggest brands in the world and some of the best agencies. He knows that the customer is king.
Richard’s patient and sensitive manner is welcomed and appreciated by people who are finding it particularly difficult to navigate their way through the mass of information available for the care sector.
Richard explains, “I find it particularly satisfying being able to sit down and talk through an individual’s own situation and being able to offer advice and support at a very difficult time for them and their family. Being able to point them in the right direction and being there for further advice is all part of my role.”
